The Giraffe Centre in Nairobi is a unique conservation and education center dedicated to the endangered Rothschild giraffe. Located in the peaceful Karen suburb, this sanctuary allows you to hand-feed these elegant creatures from an elevated platform, giving you an extraordinary up-close encounter.
Originally founded to protect the Rothschild giraffe, the centre now also runs education programs for Kenyan youth. You'll learn fascinating facts about giraffe behavior, their natural habitat, and ongoing conservation efforts. Don't miss the chance to get a "kiss" from a giraffe while feeding them specially formulated pellets — a perfect photo moment!
Tour duration: approx. 3 hours. Departure around 9:00 AM, return ~12:00 PM (morning session).
Your driver-guide meets you at your Nairobi hotel and drives to the Karen suburb (approx. 30 minutes).
Entry to the sanctuary. Get a short introduction from staff about the Rothschild giraffe and the centre's conservation mission.
Climb the raised platform where you'll be given pellets to feed the giraffes. Feel their long purple tongues take the food from your hand. Learn to identify each giraffe by their unique spot patterns.
Take a short nature walk through the indigenous forest, spot birds and monkeys, and browse the gift shop for giraffe-themed souvenirs.
Drop-off back at your Nairobi hotel. You'll have the rest of the day free for other activities.
